A New Study On The Historical Evolution Of Ta Kung Pao And The Relationship Between The Two Countries And The Communist Party (1926-1949)

Although "Ta Kung Pao" is known as a newspaper claimed the principles of neutral, independent, unconstrained, everything is in recognition of the regime legitimacy of Kuomintang.Its principle of "no party" only can be understood under the background of Kuomintang regime, rather than beyond all partisan.Due to the survival of the red line, political aspirations, journalism faith and many other factors, "Ta Kung Pao" actively take strategies to obtain living space in order to avoid political risk. Overall, its relationship with the CCP and KMT can be divided into three periods which are specifically period of leaning on KMT while against CCP(1926-1933), advocating KMT and maintaining stability with CCP(1933-1945) and a period of increasing tensions(1945-1949). At different times, the two parties take different measures to win and put Ta Kung Pao down. KMT implement top strategy, such as emotional investment on the main leaders of the newspaper and the priority supply of resources.etc. Chiang Kai-shek, Chen Bulei and Political Science Clique and other top bureaucrats have good relationships with "Ta Kung Pao", both sides sound out and take advantage of each other. Communists take the opposite way by sending newspaper office those leftist party members during Sino-Japanese War and affecting the other employees to promote the Ta Kung Pao to turn left if necessary. When Ta Kung Pao makes a serious violation of the interests of the two parties, both the KMT and the CPC will put the newspaper down. With compulsory means and personal attacks to suppress, such as the arrest of the newspaper staff, announcement of the newspaper’s closure, "three investigations on Wang Yunsheng" movements. While CCP acted in more strategic way by constructing the political label "Small Criticisim and the Big Assistance" from the ideological level, the party tried to eliminate authority of the newspaper, which proved to be powerful, effective and far-reaching. In a word, Ta Kung Pao have both cooperation and resistance with the two Parties, but the proportion is different.
