With the development in Economic Strength,the states of China keeps improving in the world,and more and more people have chosen to learn Chinese,which makes Chinese flourish.The writer,as one of the volunteer teachers in Hanban,went to Westfields International School(in the following we call as "WIS")to be a Chinese teacher from 06.10.2016-03.31.2017.During the period of duty abroad,some problem in the teaching process were found in WIS,and for that we want to know more clearly about the overall situation in Mandarin teaching to find the problem and their reasons.The questionnaire towards 247 students were conducted in WIS,which mainly focused on the composition of students,the reason to learn Mandarin and the difficulty in learning Mandarin etc.Meanwhile,211 valid questionnaires were collected.At the same time,the writer knew deeply about the basic information of WIS,the reason and the way of setting Mandarin class and so on by interviewing the school head and teachers of WIS.By the analysis of the questionnaire and the observation during Mandarin teaching,the writer discovered that Mandarin class in WIS has been founded for more than 15 years,but the result of Mandarin teacher is not so good.The problems are as the following:the unreasonable class setting,the absence of teaching resource,the imperfect management of Mandarin department,the change of the Mandarin teachers in each year,the limited teaching method in Mandarin,the unsteady setting of the teaching program,the negative attitude towards Mandarin from students,the absence of the uniform outline about Mandarin,the multilevel of the student in Mandarin and so on.The paper hopes it can help WIS in Mandarin teaching,and also help it can give an good example for the following volunteer Mandarin teachers in the future.
