With the development of science and technology, mathematics and other disciplines cross more and more. The application of mathematics has become an important task of mathematics education. Mathematical modeling is a bridge between pure mathematics knowledge and life. It's an important way to cultivate students' ability of applying mathematics. It is very necessary to apply the idea of mathematical modeling to the mathematics teaching. The function is one of the main contents of the high school mathematics curriculum. The function has been widely used in other disciplines, such as physical and chemical biology. The mathematical model used to be function model in middle school mathematical modeling activities and competitions. Function model include the elementary function model, piecewise function model, non analytic function model, fitting and prediction function model and so on. Function and mathematical modeling are closely related It is particularly important that how to apply the idea of mathematical modeling in the teaching of function. However, the mathematical modeling teaching cases are relatively little, and lack appropriate theoretical basis. In view of the above questions, this article uses the literature reading method, the questionnaire survey method and the case analysis method mainly solves the following three questions:(1)Investigation on the application of mathematical modeling thought in the function teaching in our country. (2) Application principles and Strategies of mathematical modeling thought in the function teaching. (3)Case studies on the application of mathematical modeling to the function teaching.In order to solve the above problems, this paper is divided into the following parts:Firstly, I have a fair view of the research status at home and abroad by reading literature. America, Netherlands and other countries in middle school mathematical modeling have been more perfect. And various professional mathematical competitions have been held annually. Although mathematics modeling teaching started late in our country, the mathematical modeling has received enough attention. Recently, the high school mathematics knowledge contest have been held yearly.Secondly, the application of mathematical modeling in function teaching and study is investigated with the method of questionnaire survey. The survey suggests that although both teachers and students are aware of the importance of mathematical modeling ideas in function teaching and study, it is difficulty to use mathematical modeling expertly. Based on the investigation of the questionnaire, the influence factors are analyzed:(1)It's not enough that Some middle school math teachers understand the mathematical modeling,which leads to that they cann't use mathematical modeling in class. (2)Students take all their time on how to improve their performance. And they have no time to study mathematical modeling knowledge. (3)Parents'attitude towards mathematical modeling and the learning environment for the students are the reasons for blocking mathematical modeling into the high school teaching.Then three principles and three strategies are put forward in the application of mathematical modeling thought in function teaching. The three teaching principles are: moderation, gradual and adaptability. Three strategies are:(1)Combined with the teaching process, apply mathematical modeling thinking. (2)Based on the application of teaching materials, structure modeling environment. (3)Skillfully use the subject to learn, showing the complete modeling process. And then combined with four kinds of case, the author analyses that how to apply the idea of mathematical modeling into the teaching of high school function. The methods are as follows:(1)Teachers use mathematical modeling ideas in the classroom teaching of function.(2)Students experience the mathematical modeling idea in the study of function.(3)Students enhance the awareness of mathematical modeling in task learning.(4)Students use mathematical modeling idea in mathematical modeling activities.At last, the author summarizes and reflects on the research of this paper.
