Medical Case Analysis Of Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpretation Practice Report

Because of the professionalism of medical interpretation,such tasks have higher requirements than usual.Interpreters actually play an important role in such exchanges,and the performance of interpreters has great impact on the efficiency and quality of the communications.Although a well-educated medical knowledge system plays a key role in medical interpretation,interpretation techniques and methods and even whether the interpreter is familiar with the topic or not will affect the effectiveness of the interpretation.In real circumstances,when an interpreter participates consecutive interpretation or simultaneous interpretation,in addition to the challenge of a foreign language,medical knowledge is still a kind of barrier for interpreters who don't have medical background.Although thorough interpreting preparation could lead to a better performance,we still have to notice that difficulties have existed in the situations that when the keynote speaker gives a speech without note or when there is a certain point the interpreter can't process the information in time.Even the interpreter manages to prepare everything,there must be some unexpected problems.On the basis of the problems that I met in actual medical interpreting process,it could be summarized in the following parts: case descriptions,medical terminologies,numbers and units and the way that I got used to starting with as an interpreter.I would like to make some analysis from my experience as a simultaneous interpreter without medical background,and hope what I have listed here can help someone who has interests in the topic.
