BackgroundAcne vulgaris is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit.A large number of teenagers are suffered from Acne vulgaris.Some of them do not get rid of it even when they become adults.From modern medicine,genetic tendency and level of sex hormones may play a role in patients with Acne vulgaris.The four major factors in the pathogenesis of acne are as follows:increase of the sebum excretion,keratinization of infra infundibulum,bacterial colonization of the follicle,and inflammation.As it is usually observed on the face,and may lead to persistent scars in the long term,Acne vulgaris may lead to severe physical and psychological problems.The side effects limit the application of modern medicine.Therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat Acne vulgaris,especially external treatment,have been hotspots in recent years.And external treatment of TCM has significant importance on the local efficacy.It has a long history to treat Acne vulgaris by TCM.Recent clinical trails review that the treatment of Acne vulgaris with Chinese herbal medicine mask has a relatively high cure rate,few side effects.ObjectivesTo verify clinical efficacy and safety of the Chinese herbal mask made by Beijing Hospital of traditional Chinese Medicine applied to treat moderate acne vulgaris.MethodsThe trail is designed,using randomized,patient-blinded,placebo-controlled researching methods.55 patients of moderate acne vulgaris(International Classification of Acne)are divided into two groups randomly.One is the test group,another is the placebo group.The former is treated by the Chinese herbal mask is made by Beijing Hospital of traditional Chinese Medicine.The latter group uses the placebo mask.The course of the treatment is one month.ResultsThe effective rate of the moderate acne vulgaris patients only treated by the Chinese herbal mask made by Beijing Hospital of traditional Chinese Medicine is much more higher than the effective rate of those who used the placebo mask.There are 3 patients in the test group having their faces lightly dyed and 1 patient feeling itchy.Their side effects relive quickly with no need to handle with.ConclusionThe Chinese herbal mask made by Beijing Hospital of traditional Chinese Medicine is effective and safe to.moderate acne vulgaris compared with the placebo mask.
