Since the reform and opening up,highway construction has become one of the most important contents of China infrastructure development.The length and quality of highway construction in China have been rising.However,the highway construction project faces a variety of risks and uncertainty from the initial feasibility analyze,program design,construct to complete,due to the large amount of capital investment,long construction period,land and resource occupancy and other characteristics of highway construction.These uncertainties or risk will bring a lot of loss and harm to the society,the constructor and the contractor.Therefore,risk investigation and analysis in construction projects aiming to control of construction project risk has been attached huge importance from society and stakeholder.This paper takes the Jiqing highway extension project as a case to have a deep study.Literature review and expert interview were used to identify risks in the whole life cycle of the extension project.Overall,38 risks were identified and divided into 18 categories.Then,three rounds of expert scoring were conducted to assess the possibility of risk and their impact.The results are that conflict and contradiction caused by poor organization gains the highest score in all the risks,unusual natural environment conducive to the construction,improper project management and design changes also receives relatively high score.It is found that risk often happens in the construction phase of the project,and it is necessary to strengthen the control and management in this stage.Next,risk control and management measures are put forward according to risk happened in the whole life of construction.This paper can provide suggestions of risk management in Jiqing extension highway project,and it also provide references for similar highway construction research.
