Research And Practice On The Design Of Urban Residents' Kitchen Space System

Kitchen has always been an important part in Chinese consumer’s lives,but what we have as kitchen models nowadays are based on Western style,which is not particularly suitable for Chinese kitchen behaviors.Primarily,Western kitchen style is based on their eating habits and lifestyle,kitchens in Chinese households are not only for dining and cooking,but also for social activities.Due to the differences of life style and food culture,the space structure and operation method are significantly divergent.Therefore,it can cause problems if the Western kitchen style is applied to Chinese kitchen space without any adjustments.This article discusses about the culture changing in Chinese traditional kitchen design and the contrast between Chinese and Western culture to analyze Chinese consumer’s Chinese behavior and the key elements for kitchen structure.It also indicates that Chinese kitchen style should keep being traditional.Meanwhile,the kitchen design should meet consumers’ needs.Based on the research,the author suggest to separate the kitchen space into three areas;operation area,storage area and social area.A series of user experiences for different kitchen space design has been proceeded,based on the result,a “new Chinese”kitchen style that is more suitable for Chinese lifestyle has been designed.
