This paper studies on the chemical constituents and biological activity of Elsholtzia cypriani(pam p.) C. Y. Wu et S. Chow from Guizhou.Seventeen compounds have been isolated from E.cypriani by the means of chromatography. Sixteen compounds were identified as palmitic acid(YC-1), daucosterol(YC-2),β-sitosterol(YC-3) stigmasterol(YC-4), betulin(YC-5), Oleanolic acid(YC-6), 5- hydroxy-7,8- methoxy flavone(YC-7), Caffeic acid(YC-8),luteolin(YC-9), luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(YC-13), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside(YC-14), quercetin(Y C-15), quercetin-3-O-β-D-galactopyranoside(YC-16), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside(YC-17), all of the compounds were first isolated from this plant. In addition, these paration of petroleum ether was esterified by low-level compounds,using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS) linked to its composition was analyzed andidentified by technology. 13 compounds have been isolated from it,(Z,Z,Z)-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid,methyl ester(50.693%),14-methyl entadecanoic acid,methyl ester(25.778%),9,12-Octadecadienoic acid,methyl ester(19.949%) is the main component.Total flavonoids content in roots, stems and leaves of E.cypriani were determined by UV visible spectrophotometry, the results showed that: the total flavonoid content of flowers, stem leaves and roots were 0.901 mg·g-1,0.476 mg·g-1and 0.352 mg·g-1.The ethanol extract, petroleum ether fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction and the purified compounds have been used to do the research of biological activity.In vitro the antioxidant activity was assayed by DPPH and ABTS models.The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction, ethyl acetate fraction,water fraction and YC-8,YC-9,YC-13,YC-15,YC-16,YC-17 possess the ability of clearance to both DPPH free radicals and ABTS free radicals, inhibition rate are 19.67,28.42,15.66,10.56±0.12,9.25±0.48,11.42±0.54,11.23±0.18,14.87±1.07,39.48±1.16 and 19.15,14.04,36.65,4.36±0.21,4.69±0.21,4.13±0.03,3.44±0.09,8.52±0.27,23.58±0.15.Besides, petroleum etherfraction have certain antioxidant activity to DPPH free radicals, inhibition rate are 28.53%.The antibacterial activity was detected by the disk diffusion method. the ethyl acetate extract fraction by heat under reflux exhibited activities against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis(Inhibition zone diameter 1.6 cm and 0.8 cm). Petroleum ether fraction, ethanol extract and ethyl acetate extract fraction by cold extraction have inhibitory activity on Staphylococcus aureus(Inhibition zone diameter 1.4 cm,1.1cm and 1.2 cm).The antibacterial activity was also detected by the broth dilution method.YC-8,YC-15,YC-16 and YC-17 have antibacterial activity,it’s MIC to Staphylococcus aureus are 0.05 mg·m L-1.
