A Research On The Industrial Cluster And Technological Innovation In Nanjing

The rapid development of economic globalization and the constantly deepening of the new international economic reform are the main features of modern economy.Economic globalization has turned the whole world into the market of economy and trade.The global flow of factors of production has contributed to the formation of global production system.Row upon row of multinational corporations have sprung up.Thus it is not hard to see that the more open global market and more convenient transportation and communication systems have largely weakened the role of geographic location in the competition,which seems to mean geographic position is no longer a source of competitive edge,but in fact,it is not the case.Even if nowadays,the globalization is highly influential,and even in developed and prosperous areas,the regional cluster of the same industry or of the related industries still plays a positive role.Industrial cluster is a common phenomenon in the development of modern regional economy.Whether it is the high-tech industrial cluster or the traditional industrial cluster,they all have achieved great success and it has become an important way for a country or a region to gain an competitive advantage.Technological innovation refers to technical activities that aim at improving the existing products,production process and service mode or creating new ones.The concept of technological innovation has been the focus of researches since it was proposed by Joseph Alois Schumpeter,which has been considered the important influencing factor of economic development.Therefore,the study of the relationship between industrial cluster and technological innovation seems to be of great practical and realistic significance.Based on the industrial data of Nanjing,this paper conducts a research on the relationship between industrial cluster and technological innovation with the purpose of providing references for the development of industrial cluster in Nanjing.After studying and reorganizing the domestic and foreign literature,it mainly summarizes the theory of industrial cluster,theory of technical innovation and the theory of the relevance between industrial cluster and technological innovation.Then the paper conducts a theoretical study of the interrelationship between industrial cluster and technological innovation,which shows that industrial cluster is the effective organizational form of technological innovation and it forms the innovation network for technological innovation.What is more,industrial cluster could effectively strengthen the technological diffusion of technical innovation.The paper further makes an empirical analysis.In order to facilitate the quantitative study,it summarizes the concepts related to the measure of industrial cluster.According to the research requirements,the paper adopts location entropy index to measure thecluster effects of the industrial cluster in Nanjing.The data used is from 2002 to 2011,and 22 of the industries are of strong representativeness.The index of technological innovation consists of three indicators,namely the input into technological innovation,output of the technological innovation and the number of patents.The paper then adopts the model of panel data regression to test the relationship between industrial cluster and technological innovation.It turns out that empirical results are consistent with the theoretical results and industrial cluster effects exert a positive influence on technological innovation.At the same time,the paper also analyzes the influences of the 22 industries on technical innovation,based on which it then discusses the existing problems by combining the actual industrial development of Nanjing and also proposes suggestions.
