Then LEAN Production as a scientific management mode of production is recognized by lots of businesses, especially manufacturing industry in the fierce market competition. The thinking of LEAN Production was introduced to China under the macroscopic background of Chinese reform and open, some large and medium-sized enterprises started to study and copy the mode of LEAN Production. At the same time, some enterprises and experts initiated the research of the theory LEAN Production and how to use it widely.The present study on LEAN focus on three aspects:First is to research and develop the LEAN theory of Toyota Production System. Second is how to apply the LEAN production theory into manufacturing industry, such as automobile, valve, engine manufacturing field. Furthermore, it is aimed to study the application of LEAN production theory in other non manufacturing industry. But, the study of LEAN Product development and design is still in the initial phase.This dissertation concludes twelve types of wastes which happen in the product development and design stage based on the LEAN Production theory of manufacturing. These wastes are hands off, external quality enforcement, waiting, redundant tasks, stop and go tasks, transaction waste, reinvention waste, lack of system discipline, high process and arrival variation, system over utilization, large batch size and unsynchronized concurrent tasks. This dissertation defines the wasted existence in the process of product design and development of A enterprises and transfer the process from the text inside the document into the value stream map. The process is described by items of supplier, input, process, output and customer to analyze which are the non-value added items.This dissertation also introduces the effective methods and their advantages using in the product development and design stage in A enterprise that help to define the waste and non value added item. These methods include Creo parameters design, Windchill PDM Link in document management, standardization, visualization management, A3 report and TPM. The conclusion is that the application of these methods can eliminate the wastes in the product development and design of in A enterprises and can change the mind of related staff in design and R&D activities. It is also helpful to A enterprises for its further revolution of process.This dissertation prospects the application of LEAN product development and design for non-standard products too. The design and development stage before the manufacture can affect the final cost and to optimize in this stage can make the product obtain the competitive advantage. Therefore, the study of LEAN product development and design theory is very essential. The theory could combine it other theories too. And to implant the LEAN theory into the software is not only convenient to but also make the LEAN theory into a visual way to be presented in front of learners and users. At the same time, it can also build a strong product development and design system for enterprises.
