Recent years, with the rapid development of wireless communication technology, our lives become more and more convenient and efficient, and variety of wireless communications equipment has became an essential part of our lives. In the wireless communication system, receiver used to receive various signals.Oscillator is a critical part of the receiver, therefore, the performance of oscillator directly affects the performance of receiver. With the continuous improvement of receiver, the power consumption of product is increasing. Thus, the design of low-power product is very critical.Oscillator is a high power part of receiver, the research of low-power and low-phase-noise voltage-controlled oscillator is the key to design high-performance receiver. Therefore, the research of low-power and low-phase-noise voltage-controlled oscillator has been the hotspot in RF circuits. This dissertation analyzes the research status of VCO,and summarizes several designs of low-power and low-noise circuit.Based on how to reduce the power consumption and noise of the voltage-controlled oscillator,we designed a new type of VCO with low-power and low-noise.The main works of this dissertation are as followings:(1)A low power low noise quadrature voltage controlled oscillator operating at 2.4 GHz is proposed.Current-reuse structure is adopted to design to reduce the power consumption of the circuit.Parallel substrate bias technology is used for coupling for the purpose of reducing the complexity of the circuit while also reducing the chip area.Because this technology reduces the use of elements, thus reducing the noise source of the circuit and subsequently reducing the phase noise of the circuit.Simulation results show that the voltage-controlled oscillator operates in the 2.4GHz band, the power consumption is only 110?W,better than other oscillators. The phase noise of this circuit is-128dBc/Hz at 1MHz frequency offset. When the control voltage is ranging from OV to IV,the frequency is varied from 2.35GHz to 2.46GHz,the turning range is 110MHz.The result of FOM also indicates that the oscillation circuit is superior to other circuits in overall performance.(2)A new scheme for the design of multiphase voltage controlled oscillator is proposed.Based on this method,a six-phase voltage-controlled oscillator is designed. The multi-phase voltage-controlled oscillator consists of N(N is an integer and N>2)identical inductive-capacitive(LC)tank VCOs.In theory, this oscillator can produce 2N different phase of the sinusoidal signal. The simulation results of the six-phase voltage-controlled oscillator show that the supply voltage of this oscillator is 0.8V and the power consumption is about 1mW.When the control voltage changes from 0V to 0.8V,the oscillation frequency will change between 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz.The turning range is 200MHz,the phase noise is-128dBc/Hz at 1MHz frequency offset. The main innovation of this work is designing a circuit can produce multi-phase output, and use a variety of technical to improve the performance of the circuit. The proposed circuit is designed and simulated using TSMC 0.18?m RF CMOS process and the simulation results are optimized by Cadence. The above two circuits can be used in low-power and low-noise environments. Therefore, the research of this dissertation has a certain positive significance to the development of wireless communication system.
