Signal generstor is widely used in perspace,commusisaticns,electronic measurement andother industrial production,research and teaching in various fields.With the development ofmodern testing field,the signal type of the lested equiprisent is becoming more and morecomplex,the traditional signal generator caft not need the needs of the actual test.Artiraty waveform generator appcars to selve this problem.it can not onlyu generate common test exctcation signal,but also through the waveform editing software to generte prbitrary waaveform signal,and brough great convenlence to sclentife research and production.the scer debugging in the post now be carried out in the laboratory.With the rapid development of modern electronic measurement technology,arbitrary wayeform generater is moving towards the direction of minicturization intelligence,vrtualization,test automation.In this paper,we first introduce the bistorical background and the present development of signal general and virtual instrument,prinsiple and charcteristics of difrect digital frequency Sythesis(DDS)teehnology are introduced,and analyze the spectrurn of DDS technology ideal and actual spurbous features.The development status of field programmable gate arry(FPGA)and its development software Quartusll is introduced.Them based on the direct digital frequency synthesis(DDS)Cechnology and the graphical virtual instrument development plation,a virtual arbitrary waveform signal generator based on FPGA and DDS(direct digital frequercy synthesis)technique is designed.Finally,after debugging the whole system including based on Labview upper computervirlual instrument system software and lower computer system hardware based on FPGA and DDS system,the results show that system is stable and can produce a predcermined function of signal and arbitrary wave signal,achieves the expected design requirements.The arbirary wave signal generter based on FPGA and DDS,with great fiexibility and gend applicablity,can reconstruel,upgrade and expand the system at any time in the case of not changing the hardware platform.
