In contrast to the traditional desk arbitrary wave generator which has disadvantages of large volume, inflexible interface, closed system, fixed function and expensive price, with the support of essential hardware platform and by relevant software on common computer, a new-style portable generator with the advantages of low price vs high performance, strong agility, more functions, friendly interface and easy to use discussed in present thesis is designed to realize the modules of display, interchanging between human and machine as well as datum analysis & treatment in instrument, etc.Present thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter discusses this study's reason and its research significance. Furthermore, explains the contents and research objective. The second chapter expatiates the hardware system design of the generator and the realization of its main circuit modules. The third chapter expounds the software system design of the generator. The forth chapter quantitatively & qualitatively analyzes the sources and varieties of wave shape error, and offers a concrete proposal to reduce the error for the generator. The fifth chapter describes and analyzes the actual wave shape engendered by the generator. The sixth chapter gives a succinct statement to the whole thesis and prospects for the future in this field. For the above mentioned, present study acquires certain breakthrough in both theory and practice. In theory, it gives the idea of realizing the driver of virtual instrument development platform by COM component technology, which solved the uncommon issue of the driver. In practice, a hardware circuit design combined with USB, FPGA and DDS is well achieved and reached the design standard of product level.
