A Comparative Study On The Reporting Framework Of Rio Olympic Games Between China Daily And The Times

The flame of the Rio Olympic Games has been extinguished,but people still remember the wonderful moments of it.The athletes with their respective responsibilities come from all countries,fighting for their motherlands.Due to the limitations of the Olympic venues,most people choose to enjoy the event through the media,which requires the media staff to be able to fully and truly report on the Olympic Games.As the traditional media,newspapers also try to report the grand event for readers.But because of the timeliness and dissemination,it has many limitations in transmission and they are gradually abandoned by people.However,throughout the UK and other European countries,the communication of newspaper is still working,The main reason for the difference lies in the institutional and cultural differences between the two countries.This paper selects the news reports of China Daily and The Times during the Rio Olympics as the research object.By using the news frame theory,literature method and content analysis method to analyze the samples,it summarizes the reporting differences between the two newspapers during the Olympic Games in the three aspects of theme framework,the structure framework and the utterance framework.The conclusions are as follows:First of all,from the perspective of similarities,most themes of news between China Daily and The Times are both about athletes,coaches and events.In report tendentiousness,neutral reporting is the main way to use and the majority of the reported objects are about local events.In addition,most of the news aims at highlighting the main events,and the two newspapers also choose the way of combining narrative and description in the language expression.Second,from the perspective of difference,the news content of The Times reported in the micro level,but China Daily tends to choose the macro level.In report tendentiousness,China Daily paid more attention to positive reports than The Times.In the framework of structure,The Times paid more attention to the results,and China Daily relatively focuses on the background.In the utterance framework,the language of The Times is embodied in personal heroism and gold medal,and the words of the news are more exaggerated and personality,but China Daily is more conservative and cautious.Through the data analysis,this paper found that the main reason for the differences in reporting the Games between the two countries is due to the cultural differences,which has existed since they were born.The sports culture of China pays more attention to the macro level and the spirit,whilethe western sports culture is based on competition and emphasizes the transcendence of individual ability.This caused that the same news of the two newspapers will be reported in accordance with their respective framework.In addition,the state system and the mother tongue are the other reasons.The purpose of this paper is to find out the successful experience of the foreign paper media in the Olympic Games reporting to make up for the lack of paper media of our country.So based on the conclusion,China Daily in the reporting of Olympic should strengthen the diversity of reported content in the future,and it can pay more attention to micro and make readers closer and the language more flexible,which will provide a very good interaction with the readers.
