The Study On Xu Zhucheng's News Commentary From The Perspective Of Discourse Analysis(1938-1949)

In the 1930's and 1940's,China was in a terrible situation,many intellectuals published commentaries on the newspaper to enlighten people's thoughts and achieve the modernization of China,Xu Zhucheng was one of them.He was in charge of The Standard and Ta Kung Pao Hong Kong and Guilin version during the Anti-Japanese War and National Liberation War,he advocated anti-Japanese national salvation and pursued freedom and democracy,which made a positive public opinion guide to national liberation and national independence,and also laid a good foundation for his status in the history of journalism.The paper chooses the news commentaries between 1938-1949 wrote by Xu Zhucheng as studying objects and researches the commentaries holistically and historically from three dimensions,the text,the discursive,and the social practice.Through the theoretical path of discourse analysis,the study analyzes the discourse construction of Xu Zhucheng's news commentaries and reveals the relationship between his news commentaries and the era environment and how he responded it.The paper uses the theory and the method of Norman Fairclough's discourse analysis to analyze Xu Zhucheng's news commentaries.Not only it can perform a micro analysis of the language(vocabulary,modal,title sentence style),but also it can examine the production process dynamically to analyze the constructive function of his news commentaries.On the basis of this,it also can combine his commentaries with the macro social analysis to study the relationship between the changes of discourse and the changes of society.As far as the research methods and the depth of the study,it can't be achieved through simple content analysis and cases study.In addition,the relationship among Xu Zhucheng,news commentary and era environment is worth exploring: the news commentary is written by someone,the one's knowledge background and experience are influential to the discourse of commentary;the discourse of commentary is a product of the era,so it is naturally bound by the environment of the era and the language.But the writer can respond to the commentary and the era,the response is partly the result of individual's effort,a large part is due to the mission and role that the era set for the individual.Researching Xu Zhucheng's news commentaries,on the one hand,it is expected to understand the news commentaries and the social environment clearly at that time.On the other hand,it is also expected to bring some enlightenment to news commentaries writing and journalism reform nowadays.
