The Newspaperman In The Late Qing Dynasty And Nurtrue Of Modern Nationalism (1840-1895)

This paper chooses 1840 to 1895 as the studied period when the first opium war broke out and China was defeated in the Sino-Japanese war,and takes the newspaperman in the late Qing dynasty as the study object and the modern transformation of nationalism as the stay point.With the literature such as the existing newspapers and corpus,this article attempts to recreate the performance and historical influences of the newspaperman in the late Qing dynasty in the breeding process of modern nationalism.Chapter One will make a statement against the social background during 1840-1895.Before the outbreak of the first Opium War in 1840,the traditional ethnic view is still "Cathay central view" in the closed Chinese society.After the Opium War,the Western powers have brought about a considerable impact in the technical,economic,political and cultural systems on China.The ancient China came into the greatest change in thousands of years.In the changing society,a new newspaperman transformed from traditional scholars.Their identity for the cultural presented a crisis because they were in close contact with the West.This is the complex social background mixed with the ancient,modern,Chinese and foreign situation.Chapter Two,Chapter Three and Chapter Four take the transformation thoughts of generations of newspaperman as a clue,trying to outline the route of modern transformation of nationalism in the Late Qing Dynasty.Chapter Two focuses on the translation of daily behavior of Lin Zexu,Wei Yuan,et al.who "eyes to observe the world" while adhering to "Chinese is superior and foreigners are inferior view".Chapter Three points to study Hunan Science Group and Westernization people who completed blend of Chinese and Western cultures under the influence of Staff of Newspaperman,while they were wandering between the reform and conservativeness.Chapter Four explores and describes the outline of modern nationalism showed by a few newspaperman with foresight of modern nationalism.Finally,Chapter Five will make an assessment of the historical influence of thought evolution through of newspaperman in the late Qing Dynasty.The author thinks that the awakening and spread of nationalism of newspaperman in the late Qing Dynasty had aroused people's common national consciousness,triggered people's practical action of the national struggle and led to the establishment of the concept of nationalism and the founding of National Republic eventually.Chinese social modernization gave birth to the newspaperman in the late Qing Dynasty,and then thought and behavior of the newspaperman in the late Qing Dynasty acted on the modern transformation of Chinese nationalism in turn.
