Based on the core technology of electric Internet of things(IOT)and its current application in power system in China and abroad,this study analysed several examples of IOT application in Southern Power Grid,including the industry links of power production,marketing and assets management.According to the requirements of each link,this paper dissected the advantages and drawbacks of current technology as well as some key problems that hinder its development.Based on some examples,we proposed a role to play by the IOT technology in security issues of transformer substations,electric cable and low-voltage switch facilities in Dongguan Power Grid.The main results are as follows:1)Based on researches on the core IOT technology and comparison of their applications at home and abroad,we presented the application of current IOT in power industry in Guangdong,Guangxi and Yunnan Province.2)Based on the application point of Dongguan power grid,the key technologies of the IOT were analyzed from aspects of power production and assets management.The principle and implement of the key IOT technologies were elaborated particularly from four aspects,including the perceptual layer,the transport layer,the intelligent application layer and the IOT security.3)The architecture and function analysis for the security assistant system of IOT in transformer substations were introduced after we investigated the demand of Dongguan Power Grid Substation,who established it first.The demand included aspects of dynamic monitoring,intelligent operation assistance,environmental monitoring,intelligent maintenance assistance,intelligent passive lock and comprehensive integrated display.Also,some suggestions on the development of Dongguan Power Grid Substation were given.4)With the anti-theft demand in Dongguan area,the cable tracking system based on GPS technology and the security system of low-voltage switch system are introduced respectively.Combined with data in 2014-2016,the application of IOT can serve the purpose of security maintainance of the power grid,which may also improve the profits of enterprises.The above study indicate that the IOT technology has been playing an increasing important role in the electric power industry.With the "12th Five-year" development plan of the China Southern power grid and the emphasis on the IOT technology,we propose that the IOT would serve as an indispensible part for the development of the power grid.
