With the development of society economy, traffic safety on the road has gradually become the focus of people's attention and the hot spot of scholars. With the rapid development of wireless communication technology and sensor technology,Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks(VANETs)have emerged in the Intelligent Traffic System(ITS)environment. However, the high speed of vehicles, leading to the change of network topology, which result in that the research of real-time and reliable information transmission protocol is very challenging. After studying the related routing protocol of the VANETs,this paper points out the existing flaws.Combined with the bi-directional single-lane scenario and bi-directional multi-lane scenario, two routing protocols based on the neighbor node sets which are suitable for both scenarios are designed.First of all,we classify accidents based on that different accidents have different influence on the surrounding vehicles, which is to ensure that the information can be transmitted to greater affected vehicles firstly. The concept of neighbor node sets is proposed, which is to reduce the transmission delay. In order to reduce the link break, this protocol uses the reverse lane vehicle for information transmission when necessary. In view of the above ideas,we design a routing protocol based on neighbor node sets for bi-directional single-lane scenario, and derive the calculation formula of the transmission delay.Secondly, another corresponding neighbor node sets is proposed, based on this the cluster header sets is set up.When an accident happens,a cluster is formed, which is provided by the cluster header and cluster header is responsible for the information transmission.According to the above two types of accidents,a routing protocol based on the neighbor node sets is designed, which is suitable for the bi-directional multi-lane scenario. In the protocol,we use reverse lanevehicles to reduce the link break. Finally,a traffic model is built by Vanet Mobi Sim and the two protocols above are simulated by NS-2.The results show that the two routing protocols are improved in terms of transmission delay and average packet delivery fraction. And this paper also points out the problems that need to be improved, and the further research direction.
