Research On Agenda Setting Of Social Media

December 23,2016,the day before Christmas Eve and thought to be filled with romance,tragic case of Lei Yang ended tenderly,People's Procuratorate in Beijing Fengtai district identified the involved five police officers' crime was minor,announced their decision on non-prosecution.The Lei Yang case not only recalled public security pain spot and raised a huge wave of consensus;also present the tense relationship between police and the public.In the new technological revolution,Web2.0 era changed the original production and transmission of social issues.To highlight the interactivity feature,social media shows its advantage of information diversity,lower threshold,the aspiration of Human-oriented in obtaining and expressing accelerated the rise of social media in network society,and it has also become a large filter to reflect the public issues.Based on Lei Yang case,the article explored how public issue got the access to public view via social media,how to promote the increment of information,and how did different parties of the case lead the interpretation and discourse.This research used Weibo Visual Analytic System,took key stages of the case as important nodes,analysis Weibo content on the related nodes,started from the feature of construction and the subject,Explored social media's agenda-setting and its dimensions,as well as the characteristics and limitations.The followed conclusions were obtained from the study,the content production and dissemination mode in social media provides technical basis for agenda settings,but the attention of audience is undermined at the same time.The subjects of agenda-settings in social media are pluralistic,and in this case,the middle-classed opinion leaders played key roles during the agenda-settings.The agenda targeted clearly and with diverse expression,and has strong demands for the police's law enforcement standardization and legalization construction.Social media reflect complex dialogue and response process between public opinion and media issues and policies.Social media has inevitable limitations in agenda-settings,but there is no denying that it has showed great advantage and potential in broadcasting and participating public issues.
