ZigBee is a communication technologies used in wireless sensor networks. In recent years, with the continuous development and maturity of ZigBee technology, it has been widely used in environmental monitoring, industrial and agricultural monitoring, medical and military, transportation, smart home and other fields.ZigBee system usually adopts the periodic data transmission mechanism, which is suitable for those applications which have no demand for long time. ZigBee systems typically employ periodic data transfer mechanism, which is suitable for those applications of long unattended, data information needs little. For example, the application of the wireless meter reading system, pipeline monitoring, bridge tunnel safety monitoring, air quality monitoring and other non real time system. In these applications, the battery is generally used to supply energy of the node, so the node energy has become an important resource of the ZigBee system, but also determines the normal use of the time. Therefore, under the condition of the battery-powered research how to save energy, improve energy efficiency, prolong the using time of ZigBee system has become a hot issue in the application field of ZigBee.To solve the key problems of energy consumption in ZigBee system, this thesis studies the energy saving method of sleep wake up in long period of application of ZigBee system. The research mainly in the following two aspects: first, the energy consumption problem of ZigBee system is analyzed from the application scenarios. By analyzing the energy saving mechanism of different sleep-wake, the LITE sleep mode is applied to the ZigBee system with long periods of sleep, which is reduce the energy consumption and improve the energy efficiency of the system. Secondly, By analyzing the synchronous sleep and asynchronous sleep method design periodical sleep Wake-up program method of nodes. By analyzing the problem of the long time sleep timer and the synchronization of network wake-up, using the methods of the sleep timer cycle work and step by step network time synchronization to solve them.This thesis has completed the research and implementation of energy conservation program. Combined with the application scenarios of wireless meter reading system is designed periodically synchronized sleep wake up energy saving method. Designed the ZigBee node core circuit board and backplane circuit in the hardware, wherein the core circuit is wireless communication circuit, and a backplane circuit including the serial communication circuit, key circuit and so on. Achieved the networking system and data transceiver and node synchronization wake-up functions in the Z-Stack protocol stack of the software. Finally, the test program of energy consumption is designed in the experiments. Using multiple nodes to carry out the relevant tests, verify the effectiveness of such scheme in ZigBee system. The energy consumption test results show that the system using time to achieve the desired design goals, also verified the Wake-saving mechanism under certain conditions is better able to reduce energy consumption in system.
