Narrative Research Of The Drama-style Reality Show

Nowadays,the development of reality show increases significantly and a serious homogenization phenomenon appears.Under this circumstance,a change of thinking mode and independent innovation should be valued during program production.In November 2015,Hunan TV launched the reality show "Run for Time" which broke the traditional narrative to a certain extent.As the first RPG(Role-Playing)game reality show,it successfully attempted a new pattern of a combination of reality with drama and multi-temporal scene transitions which pioneers in multi-line and multi-temporal narrative method of reality show with a high research value.In this paper,the reality show "Run for Time" as a case will be researched with the use of narrative theory from the aspects of the narrator,the receiver,character modeling,narrative space-time,narrative structure,and narrative impetus and the narrative mode and features.In the aspect of narrative communication,a variety of character shaping enriches the narrative functions;in the aspect of character modeling,a variety modeling methods increases the drama tension and a complicated character relations strengthen the dram effect;in the aspect of narrative space-time,it uses and semi-open narrative space and multi-temporal narrative method which delivers a clear storyline across three space-time;in the aspect of narrative structure,a drama structure enables to deliver a linked story line;in the aspect of narrative impetus,the suspense and conflicts contribute to show progress and social teaching empowers the meaning of the reality show.However,as the emerging model is immature which still in a continuous exploration stage,the research offers several suggestions for the drama-style reality show:firstly,the audience watching habits should be cultivated with a step-by-step promoting mode;secondly,prevent the imbalance between "drama" and "reality show".As the development of the society and the change of thinking mode,"burning brain" reality show will be a major trend.Programming production should take a longer view rather than meet the inherent audience thinking and produce stale program which requires TV programmers' continuous attempts and effort.This paper hopes to provide some inspiration for the long-term development of reality show in the aspect of narrative method.
