Southern People Weekly,as one of the most influential magazine about people in China,aims at recording our destiny and pursuing the truth of people and the time,and tightly follow the steps of foreign magazine development through continuous study and progress.To be specific,taking the Time as the objective,it constantly improve and perfect the report on people,in order to open up a new path for the people magazine market.Therefore,as the most distinctive and remarkable category,cover story report is worthy of further research.This paper takes each people stories in Time and Southern People Weekly to carry out specific study from Jan.2014 to Dec.2016.Through a comparative analysis from the selective strategy and characteristics,cover design,narrative report style,etc,this paper tries to find out the similarities and differences between them and then draws a conclusion.In the present paper,some difficulties on the report of cover story were concluded following the model of cover story report of Southern People Weekly.All the factors such as intense competitive market of people magazine,limited people selection and stereotyped people report stuck domestic people magazine in a dilemma.For this reason,in order to seek a development road suitable for domestic people magazine under new media text,advanced technical means should be reached,the range of people selection be expanded,the content be stressed and the report design of cover story be enriched.
