With the development of wireless communications,micro-electronics and sensors, personal short distance communication has been one of the research hotpots.Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN)is a sort of body centered wireless network, which can monitor the body physiology condition at any time with the help of sensor points on or in the body. Therefore, the Wireless Body Area Network has been wildly applied in the medical field. The battery electric is very limited for that the sensors are directly embedded on or in the body resulting to restricted sizes of sensors. So,it is vital importance to study the reducing of energy consumption in the sensors for extending the life cycle of the Wireless Body Area Network. The energy consumption of the sensor points mainly stem from transceivers while the MAC layer mainly manage the transceiver's work condition. As a result,a reasonable designed MAC layer protocol can reduce the energy consumption of the sensor points. In this paper, two energy saving methods are raised corresponding to real time medical treatment and non-real time medical treatment.First of all,an energy saving method based on dormancy mechanism is proposed for non-real time medical treatment condition in which the energy can be reduced.Secondly,a kind of mixture priority level energy saving method has been raised for real time medical treatment condition,in which the important message can be sent and received while conflict are reduced. Finally, with the results of simulation, the MAC layer method for both real time medical treatment condition and non-real time medical treatment condition are useful in saving energy.
