With the changing demands of communication business, the technology of optical communication network has undergone a development process from PDH,SDH to MSTP technology. With the coming of 3G era, there are higher requirements and more challenges for optical communication network.Making the new generation of transmission networks more flexible, efficient and secure has become a challenge in front of us.Starting from the process of technological development, the dissertation introduces the existing equipment of transmission network and its management, indicating analysis and forecasts on current business development and several issues local bearer network faces. At the heart of the dissertation, optimization strategy is proposed for the backbone, convergence layer and access layer and also the network scheme proposal for new network construction is going to be discussed. In order to solve the problems brought by the development of data services, while improving the local transmission and respond capacity of transmission network,Integrating and optimizing the existing network resources is a must.Meanwhile,it is essential to bring new technology into the networking process of the transmission project to make it better able to carry all kinds of new business.PTN as a packet-oriented transmission technology meets the trend of future business that is IP and broadband-based.Furthermore,its network scalability and compatibility and business management with SDH equipment enable PTN technology to have a better performance than traditional techniques. Therefore,in order to meet the current demand for data services, when the optical transport network develops to a certain stage, the emergence of the PTN is inevitable.
