As a forefront hardware architecture of the frequency hopping communication (FHC)system, the RF hardware unit is an extremely important part of the entire system. During the process of continuous research and development, the software defined radio (SDR) technology,combined with the advantages of universal application and opening, gradually began to be used into the research and application of the RF hardware unit. In the system of FHC working on L-band, the design of RF hardware units is generally required to depend on a variety of applications and needs. However, the poor universal application and openness lead to its higher cost on human and material resources during the processes of research and development. So,how to apply SDR technology to design the RF hardware unit of a FHC system in communication filed has become a hot spot.The RF front-end is the main research content in this paper. The final program design on the RF front-end of a FHC system working on L-band is completed by using the main idea about how to design hardware processing platform in the SDR technology, based on the theories related to the SDR technology and FHC system etc.Firstly, the using theories are introduced, such as the receiver RF front-end relational structure, its technical index, and some question related to the impedance matching in the circuit.On this basis, the main technical index of the whole RF front-end is analyzed. Furthermore,combined with actual demand of the project, the final program design on the RF front-end of a FHC system working on L-band is designed. The advanced design system (ADS) simulation software is utilized to develop the program design and complete the budget analysis of the communication links.Secondly, modular division is achieved based on the above program design. The whole design consists of four modules, such as the wide dynamic range signal detection and processing, the high hopping speed oscillator, the intermediate frequency processing, and the filter for receiver. Their program design, feasibility analysis, hardware circuits, and relational driver program are actualized depending upon their different function settings.Finally, the actual circuits fabrication of the wide dynamic range signal detection and processing module, the high hopping speed oscillator module and the intermediate frequency processing module are obtained. The solutions and improvement methods to the circuits design for the project are from the data and the hardware problems analysis in the process of the module implementation, debugging and testing. And then, the overall performance of the system will be improved and optimized.
