The Role Of Social Media In Environmental Mass Disturbance

Along with the rapid economic development in recent years,environment problems emerged gradually,citizens' awareness of environment protection is awakened.We concern more about the environment which directly influences our daily lives.We are taking active part in environment protection and show our passion and determination.However,the awareness to the environment problems of the public is complicated.On one hand,they show high enthusiasm to it and are eager to get involved in environment monitoring and decision-making.On the other hand,lacking of knowledge to certain environment situations,doubting the environment monitoring and decision-making by the governments and fearing for the potential impact of the environment pollution.Due to these reasons,the public show their fear when new projects are ready to run,such as worrying creating irreversible environment problems caused by insufficient regulatory ability.The impact of environment problems is exaggerated because of inadequate knowledge of environment,this leads to frequent environmental mass disturbance,and influences the harmony and stable development of the whole society.Environmental mass disturbance becomes the key problem.Anyway,the fermentation and diffusion of the environmental mass disturbance rely on the media.It has two forms,traditional media as the main carrier and social media which depends on network technique.In the era of undeveloped network technology,the fermentation and diffusion of the environmental mass disturbance usually rely on private communication and gathering of the citizens in the physical space.Mass media plays an important function in the promotion of public opinion,propaganda and guidance.However,in the era of social media with rapid development of network technology,the outburst ways of the fermentation and diffusion of the environmental mass disturbance have changed,they started transferring to social media.The role of social media is becoming more and more important and diversified,problems emerge at the same time.Though traditional private communication and gathering in the physical space exist,the openness nature of the media creates the right of access,the phenomenon of media empowerment is becoming more and more obvious.It will bring certain role problems in the absence of appropriate regulation.First,different subjects have different role expectations for social media.These expectations come from different positions and values,this causes ambiguity to social media roles.Second,different subjects have different use and needs of social media,these needs are substantially showed up from different interests of the subjects.But these needs motivation may not be rational and compliant with social norms,it brought the problem of losing the model of social media.Third,because of the prominence between official discourse and folk discourse in social media leads debate between social media and traditional media.The bad impact of social media effects its positive function,reduces the efficiency of communication between the regulatory authorities and the public and the effectiveness of public opinion guidance,misleads objective understanding to the event of the public and accelerates the breeding of rumors.As a result,the author thinks that we should pay attention to the role of social media in the environmental mass disturbance.After studying existing literature at home and abroad,the author found out there are more researches on the role of mass media in the environmental mass disturbance,but the researches on social media are quite inadequate.So in this paper,the author sets the role of social media as the research object,the formation of the role of social media,the content of role plays,the role of social media as the focus of the research,systemizes the formation of the role of social media,on the basis of the discussion of the role and function of social media,analyses the impact of the role of social media and finds ways to solve it.This study adopts the method of case study and literature research,based on the comparison of environmental mass disturbance in the past year,selected "Xiantao citizens boycotted the establishment of incineration plant " incident as a case study.The author followed timeliness,typicality,individuation and scalability in the case selection.In 2016,among all the outbreaks of environmental mass disturbance,“garbage disposal” gained the highest attention,the total number of outbreaks is the most as well.According to the monitoring platform(WebInsight)of large data towards public opinion,a total of seven “garbage disposal” mass disturbance incidents occurred in the first half of 2016,among which "Xiantao citizens boycotted the garbage incineration” created the deepest and wildest influence,hit the peak of social media.In the process of public opinion settlement and crisis management,many new features appeared and measures multidirectionally used.The case shows certain degree of typicality and individuation.So the author selected " Xiantao citizens boycotted the garbage incineration” as the case study,introducing the case and analyzing public opinion communication.Based on the analysis of the problem,the author divides it into several aspects: The formation of social media,the content of social media,the impact of social media and the solutions of the impacts etc.The main contents of this paper include:Chapter 1 foreword,the background and value of the research,put forward problems,analyze and discuss the theory of domestic and foreign related researches,elaborate the value and significance of the research,produce ideas and theories of the research,present the emphases,difficulties and innovations of this paper.Chapter 2,the formation and role of environmental mass disturbance in social media.This chapter contains the content of social media and the formation of social media.Among those environmental mass disturbance incidents,the role peculiarity of social media was not accidental,the role of social media has a process of formation and stage.This chapter focuses on the analysis of the formation of the role of social media and the characteristics of the formation of social media.It mainly analyzes and discusses the specific role of social media in different role expectations,including the public opinion guidance by the regulatory authorities,the places of public opinion spread,the ways of environmental knowledge popularizes.Chapter 3,the function of social media in environmental mass disturbance.In the content of social media,In the function of social media,it mainly describes the interaction between social media and traditional media in the environmental mass disturbance,the impact of social media on the public discourse of environmental issues,the effect of the development of social media to the
