Ad Hoc network is a multi hop wireless communication network, which consists of a large number of mobile nodes with wireless transceiver functions.Ad Hoc network has the characteristics of self-organization,dynamic topology, multi hop and so on,and does not need fixed hardware infrastructure.Usage of batteries to supply power will results in the problem of energy constraints, which is research focus.Ant colony optimization(ACO)is a heuristi c algorithm with good performance, which has the characteristics of self-organization,positive feedback and distributed computing.Usually,ACO is used to solve the complex combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, considering the similarity characteristics of ACO and Ad Hoc network,ACO is applied to the AODV routing protocol to optimize the routing quality. Most of the existing Ad Hoc routing protocols are based on the minimum hops, and do not take full account of the remaining energy, resultin g in the increase of the central node traffic and energy consumption too fast.In view of the problem of energy limitation of Ad Hoc network, the work of this paper includes three parts: First, this paper uses the method of cross layer power control to calculate the optimal transmit power instead of the maximum transmits power;Second, the method of energy grade and delay forward is used to select the node with sufficient energy, which can balance the energy consumption of all nodes;Third,ACO is used to improve AODV routing protocol's performance, which determines the transition probability according to the path information and residual energy instead of broadcasting. Finally, the improved algorithm is verified in EXata, and the simulation results show that the improved routing protocol can reduce the network energy consumption and prolong the network lifetime.
