In the last decades, the concept of Internet of Things is brought up and promotes the combination of wireless communication and other walks of life. Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN) is introduced as a novelty way to collect physiological indicators for individuals as a fundamental technology for further services such as medical and entertainment utilities.A WBAN is consist of a series of sensors on or implanted in human body, in order to collect variety of physiological indicators, and a hub node function as a center node within the sensor network as well as a gateway to the Internet. The IEEE 802.15.6 standard is proposed in 2012 in order to provide an international standard for a short-range, low power, and highly reliable wireless communication for use in close proximity to, or inside a human body, which mainly focuses on the PHY layer and MAC sub-layer.Within a WBAN, different kinds of energy-constrain sensors working as an entity. So the early absence of any nodes would probably lead to invalidation of the whole network, even if there are most of well-function nodes. So to balance the energy consumption is a key technology for practice utility of a WBAN. Balanced Ant Routing Algorithm(BARA) is proposed in this paper, based on Ant Colony Optimization, is an adaptive, distributive algorithm which could adjust the forward strategy based on the current status of the network. BARA inherits the group intelligence of ACO and is easy to implement with an excellent performance. Through corresponding simulation, we compared the performance of BARA and traditional shortest path routing. In terms of communication capabilities, the two algorithms are rather close. While in terms of energy balancing, BARA could decentralized energy consumption of the ‘hot spot’ and prolong the shortest lifetime of the nodes which then prolong the valid time of the whole network.
