The Research Of Xinhuanet's Data News Visualization

With the arrival of big-data era comes the explosion of data and information resources.Journalism and communication field,as the agency to record social development,interpret news events and disseminate information,needs to stay in tune with the era,constantly update news reporting styles,achieve innovative development and meet readers' demands.Under these circumstances,data journalism has become a profound revolution facing this field in the big-data era.Data journalism transforms traditional word-centered reporting,presents readers with fresh,attractive and informative visual news works,and has won increasing recognition from media and journalistic practitioners.Data journalism has been deemed as the future trend in the journalism field.This thesis has taken Xinhuanet Data News Program as research objects for a couple of reasons: data shows that Xinhuanet Data News-related visualization studies are relatively inadequate;this program,recognized as a famous news column on the occasion of the 25 th China News Award,represents on the whole the status quo of data news visualization in China,which thus bestows this thesis with practical meanings;samples of this thesis are latest,revised data news programs taken from January 1st to November 30 th of Year 2016,the analysis of which can lead to the conclusions of the achievements and deficiencies in practice.Firstly,this thesis defines the concept of data journalism on the basis of literature review.This thesis introduces the origination background of computer-aided reporting and accurate reporting,compares them with data journalism and summarizes its distinct features;it defines the concept of visualization,as data journalism visualization is a new way of presenting news,with data at its core,visualization as its carrier and computing technologies as its pillar;it also introduces the current,common forms of data news visualization.Secondly,this thesis analyzes the contents of Xinhuanet Data News samples from the perspectives of topic selection and data sources,after which,this thesis analyzes their forms of visualization.Based on these analysis and the statistical results,this thesisdraws conclusions on the features of Xinhuanet visualized data news.Thirdly,after a detailed analysis of the samples,this thesis points out the three major deficiencies confronting Xinhuanet visualization,which include: inadequate data mining and analysis;the overwhelming amount of static visualization charts and diagrams;the limited,small magnitude of data sources.Lastly,having obtained a reasonable understanding of the status quo of Xinhuanet news data development,the writer puts forward four approaches to optimize Xinhuanet data news visualization,which are respectively:elevating data visualization degrees;enhancing the interactivity among information charts,tables and diagrams;pushing forward the process of data opening up;building optimal data journalism teams.To dig valuable news from the sea of data demands not only visualization teams with data mining and expressing capacities,but also innovations on the data opening mechanisms.There are too many issues to be discussed on the practical path of data journalism visualization.
