3D display technology present people a more real world,the perfect reappearance of 3D information will become a new trend in information technology area.However,3D display quality and visual comfort have been less satisfactory while 3D display technology bring people to the visual impact.So the research on display quality and visual comfort is so important to the development of 3D display technology.The performance of stereoscopic display is an important factor that influence the visual comfort,and the influence may be different for displays on different display principle.In this paper,we took the eight-viewpoints parallax barrier stereoscopic display as an example and researched the optical characteristics of stereoscopic display by measuring the optical characteristics such as optimal viewing position crosstalk,viewing range,brightness uniformity,chromaticity uniformity and moire.Analyzing the obtained data samples,the results showed that this method of measurement and analysis had an instructive effect on objectively assessment for stereoscopic display.Based on the research that stereo content influence on visual comfort,this paper researched the 3D video synchronization on lateral motion and motion in depth,namely,the delay time threshold of comfortablely viewing.Lateral motion used subjective evaluation method in double stimulus and single stimulus,researching the delay time threshold on different disparity grades,different speed grades,left shift and right shift.Behavioral data found that disparity had no significant effect on the delay effect;the velocity had a significant effect on the delay effect than disparity,but the excessive speed will influence the judge by subjects;the detection rate was more high in right shift than left shift,subjects was easier to distinguish right shift.Detection rate increased with the increase of the delay time,the delay limit for comfortable viewing should be controlled under one frame.Motion in depth used subjective evaluation method in double stimulus and objective evaluation method of EEG based on ERP technique.Subjective experiment studied the delay time of different depth levels and reached the ideal depth level.The broken line graph of detection rate of the behavior data and the difference statistical analysis showed that the delay time limit should be less than one frame.Objective experiments used EEG and classic oddball experimental paradigm,the brain electric activity mapping showed that N200 component related to time derivation was found mainly in frontal area and top(occipital)area,and the P300 component is mainly distributed in the frontal area,central-top area and occipital area.ERP waveform showed that the temporal variation of the stereo video may cause higher voltage amplitude and earlier reflection in human brain.The statistical analysis of amplitude was consistent with the result of behavioral data,which indicated that the delay time should be controlled within one frame.According to lateral motion and motion in depth,to ensure the visual comfort,stereo video delay can not exceed one frame.
