With the rapid development of display devices,three-dimensional(3D)stereoscopic display technology has been widely used.Stereoscopic display technology mainly uses spatial interlacing(multiplexing)and temporal interlacing(multiplexing)and other split-image techniques to provide the two eyes with two slightly different images to produce a three-dimensional scene with a sense of depth.Usually, color 3D scene reproduction requires the acquisition, transmission and processing of two color images, and the amount of information transmitted and processed is large compared to two-dimensional(2D)images,necessitating the exploration of various compression and optimization methods. It has been found that by presenting a color image to only one eye and a gray image to the other eye,the human brain can also fuse this monochromatic stereo image pair into a color 3D scene with an unaffected sense of depth. This binocular color presentation scheme can greatly reduce color redundancy and required bandwidth, but color as an important feature of the display content, the reduction of color information will certainly affect the visual comfort of stereo display,in order to ensure that the stereo content has acceptable visual comfort, how to reasonably allocate color information for binocular becomes the research content of this thesis. For stereoscopic video image sequences, this thesis designs a variety of color and monochrome image combinations, conducts psychophysical experiments to test the visual comfort of stereoscopic video with these different binocular color assignment schemes, and investigates the impact of color asymmetry information in stereoscopic display on the visual comfort of stereoscopic display, specific research includes:(1)In order to investigate the effect of color information compression ratio on visual comfort, different binocular color assignment schemes are designed, and then find the color information compression ratio for visual comfort.Different binocular color assignment schemes have different color information compression ratios.Using the color information compression ratio as the independent variable,a subjective evaluation experiment on the visual comfort of stereoscopic video with different color and monochrome image combinations was conducted, and the experimental results showed that the color information compression ratio has a significant effect on the visual comfort of stereoscopic video, and the visual comfort of stereoscopic video decreases with the increase of the color information compression ratio.Based on Weber-Fechner law,an objective evaluation model of visual comfort of stereo video based on color information compression ratio is established, which predicts that the visual comfort of stereo video will become unacceptable when the color information compression ratio is greater than 2.03.(2)The visual comfort of stereoscopic video composed of three different color and monochrome image combinations under the condition of color information compression ratio of 2.The subjective evaluation results show that different binocular color assignment schemes have significant effects on the visual comfort evaluation of stereoscopic video. The color assignment in which the left view portion of all frames in the stereoscopic video is in gray and the right view portion of all frames is in gray effectively reduces the flicker phenomenon of the video and may result in a better visual experience than the other two schemes.(3)Since the dominant eye is mainly used to analyze and locate the target object and the non-dominant eye is mainly used to process color information.Based on this, this thesis proposes a binocular color assignment scheme in which color images are presented to the non-dominant eye and gray images are presented to the dominant eye,and conducts a subjective evaluation experiment on the visual comfort of stereo video color assignment scheme based on different dominant eye populations. The experimental results show that the scheme of presenting color information to the nondominant eye has better visual comfort than the scheme of presenting color information to the dominant eye for different dominant eye populations, and suggest that individualized binocular color presentation schemes should be provided to users when the stereoscopic display is promoted and applied. The thesis gives different color allocation schemes for the left and right eye views of stereoscopic display, studies the visual comfort of stereoscopic video encoded based on different schemes, and establishes an objective evaluation model for the visual comfort of stereoscopic content based on the compression ratio of color information, which has some scientific significance for understanding the information processing process of the visual system and has some application value for the promotion and application of stereoscopic display technology.
