The Stage,Square,Park:the City Square From The Perspective Of Public Space

The square,as a kind of important public space in the city,is not only an important platform for public exchanges but also an important medium to highlight city'cultural temperament.Meanwhile,it is also regarded as an important carrier for bearing the social changes.Accordingly,This paper takes squareas research object,and focuses on three dimensions,namely,"space","communication" and "power",in order to explore the meaning of the square space.This paper adopts ethnographic research method and takes "Xiuning County Square" as the research text.The author conducts a diachronic study about the Xiuning County square and reveals its development and change.At the same time,the author also makes a synchronic study about the representative squares in different periods,and reveals the different features of "communication" and"power" in the specific space.Xiuning located in southern of Anhui Province.The development of Xiuning is similar to the development of many cities in China,but there are also differences.The study found that the development of "Xiuning County Plaza" has experienced the changes ranging from "The Stage" to "The Square" and to "The Park"."The Stage"refers to "the ShengLiTai people's Square;"The Square" is defined as "Square group",so it is composed by a series of square,including "champion culture square""business city square" "Xinning square" "Funing Times Square" "University square";"The Park" refers to "Hengjiang park",It is a kind of new form of urban public space,which is composed of different space types such as "square","walkaround bridge"and so on.Different age makes different demand,the change of the square shape and function is greatly satisfied with people's needs every time.The square serves as a platform for public interaction,its changing process also shows the changes of communication way.On "ShengLiTai People's Square",people have forged a kind of collective friendship in a political atmosphere.In "Champion Culture Square",People release oppressive emotion,form community and seek belonging and identity.In "HengjiangPark",People enjoy good ecological resource.People here get rid of external interference and truly return to nature.In such a space,people become free and independent individuals.As a kind of important public space in the city,Square is the place that different groups fight for space and power.The change of the square' function leads to the change of power,which is the true portrayal of the development of a city or an era.As a political performance,field,"ShengLiTai People's Square" is a showcase of political activities.The square becomes an important tool of control on power,The groups in space are at two extremes,namely,"meaning compliance" and "unilateral statement".As an activity platform for different groups,"Champion Culture Square" in the new period still permeate control of the power,and Business forces have also joined in,all of which made it a more complex battle field.As a relatively open and free space,The "Hengjiang Park" combine the power,regulation with personal development needs,and realize a balance between discipline and freedom.From "the stage" to "the sqare" and to "the park",The development of public space in Xiuning seek a new life from changing.This "new life" is firstly a sign of the urban construction,because it shows the development and progress of the city.Secondly,The perfect integration between space construction in different periods and the locally characteristic culture makes the square become an important media in showing the local image.Lastly,The square shows the change of relationship,namely,"square" and "man".Different times have different pursuits and value orientation,the development of "square space" also gradually meet the needs of human development,it also reflects the social transition from hard to soft at the same time.
