A Study On China Traveler (1949-1954)

China Traveler was founded in 1927 and it is regarded as a outstanding professional journal of travelling.However,the journal was confronted with suspension of publication in 1949.Then it resumed in October 1949 when the People's Republic of China was established.It is a pity that the journal stooped publication in August 1954.Facing the new political and economic environment of the People's Republic of China,the journal adjusted its position,did a positive innovation,the contents of moving with times as well as its forming have the public welcoming.Researching China Traveler from 1949 to1954 can reflect that the journal inherits and preserves fine traditions under the circumstances of political and economic environment.In order to adapt to new environment and keep up with times,the journal reinvent itself.From 1949 to 1954,China Traveler is not only containing travelling,but following the purpose that Carry forward Chinese scenic spots,Promote travelling business and a switch striving for implementing the Party's literary and artistic principles aimed at “service for production,serving working individuals.Meanwhile,the journal increases two aspects such as culture,education and economic construction,in order to introduce magnificant scenics,dynamic economic construction,economic resources,historical relics,local characteristics,scenic spots and historical sites and so on,providing readers with the education of patriotism,history and current events.Certainly,in the new period,the adjustment of China Traveler,to adapt to the process,is not plain sailing as well as the process.It is known that China Traveler(1949-1954)is regarded as one of the epitomes of social,economic and political development in the modern history of China.China Traveler is a valuable historical records of politics from 1927 to 1954,economic,culture,geography,history and so on as it contains abundant information and faithfully records some aspects of modern social changes.Currently,as for 1927-1949 study on China Traveler,doctoral thesis have appeared.Moreover,the research of the journal from 1927 to 1954 suggests that the experts including academia(history,tourism),industry(travel,economic management and finance)put it at the first place..However,from the dates the author has access to until now,no one has researched China Traveler in 1949-1954 and the existing work shows only one aspect of the journal,which is relatively weak.Hence,it needs to be deepened and explored deeply.In all,the author chooses China Traveler(1949-1954)as thesis topic for a master's degree.The chapter seven compares the whole contents,has a comprehensive analysis,makes a new point,for improving some weak study at present.The chapter one Introduction mainly elaborates the research achievements of our country,discusses topic conception and states the main content of this study,the basic framework and research methods.The chapter two mainly discusses the historical background of China Traveler appeared and its development in the period of the Republic of China.The development of China's various aspects such as economy and culture at the beginning of the 20 th century is regarded as the precondition of the development of Chinese tourism industry as well as era background of China Traveler.What's more,the development of China's travel agencies and Shanghai commercial savings bank as well as ChenShifu's management idea,have a significant effect on the journal during the period of the Republic of China.The chapter three is to rebuild the development course of China Traveler during the period of People's Republic of China.With the establishment of the People's Republic of China,the journal resumed.In order to deal with the new political and economic situation,China Traveler takes a positive attitude to adapt to the new environment and carry on the self-improvement.At the same time,it also adheres to the principle: Expound and propagate Chinese scenic spots,Advocate the tourism business.keeping old principles and following the new trend are regarded as the two conflicts,which encourage the journal to transform in the new era with plain sailing of position and reform.The fourth chapter,the fifth chapter,the sixth chapter in this paper are focused on contents,editing teams,groups of authors,readers for the China Traveler to carry on the analysis and research,giving priority to the period of the republic as well as comparing with the contents of China Traveler during the period of the Republic of China.The biggest characteristic of China Traveler during the period of the Republic of China lies in advocating : Keeping old principles and Following the new trend for the purpose,regardless of politics,the author's identity,only aimed at the contents.In order to satisfy the needs of the environment during the period of the Republic of China in 1949-1954,editorial policy is no longer providing a simple travelling,but two aspects: culture and education and economic development.Chapter seven summarizes the position and function of China Traveler in the history of tourism journals in our country,anticipating that contemporary tourism industry should learn from China Traveler.
