Is there any difference between different state media on the same international event?Based on news domestication, this study takes the South China Sea arbitration case as an example to illustrate how different state media transfer remote events in the world understandable and easy to accept for native audience. In accordance with the media coverage and relevance of the circle, the study selects "People Daily","China Times","Ta Kung Pao","Philippine Daily Inquirer" and "Straits Times" as a sample, concluding domestication strategies and factors affecting domestication from the coverage.Comparing similarities and differences by content analysis from the reporting time, news genre, news sources, the attitude of arbitration, identity construction and so on,this research sums up the media's domestication strategies on the South China Sea arbitration case.Common strategies include using manuscripts by their own reporters, choosing the topic of local audience care, quoting local readers familiar with celebrity idioms and rhetoric metaphor, making full use of comments and simplifying hard news. This conforms to initial hypothesis, however, this study also finds the sources' professional status is more important than geographical identity. The five newspapers are more inclined to use the government and experts,no matter where there are from;People Daily lacks native private sources;global news agencies still have certain influence on weaker countries. The discourse analysis of the editorials of the five newspapers finds that the newspapers prefer to use the first person, evaluation, numbers, negative words, metaphor, exaggeration, and so on,even define events and criticize others with sharp words and hostility from their own national position, which implies this binary opposition thinking"our national is good, contrary to the interests of our nation is bad".Therefore, national interest is one of the factors affecting the domestication of international news.In addition, the attitude of the newspapers about the arbitration case is highly consistent with the position of their own nation-state.International legal conventions can be cited by China against arbitration, accusing the Philippines of unilateral litigation, but also by the Philippines to support arbitration, pressing legal effect on China in terms of moral and public opinion. The opposite view, the counter interest and the embarrassment root in the national strength. The study also believes that the domestication is internalized into media daily norms, and it's acquiescent common sense and "unspoken rules".Domestication about South China Sea arbitration case and native audience awareness is interactive, and serves the national ideology ultimately.
