Australia is a country with a multicultural society.Many of its cultures came along with the immigrants all over the world.Within the wide community of immigrants,the Australia's mainstream media reports lots of the ethnic activities.After the end of "White Australia Policy",immigrants have growing importance in maybe aspects of Australia's society.Among all the ethnics,Chinese has the largest population in Australia' sminorities.When there are big issues about the Chinese,most of the Australia's mainstreams medias would report about.In this thesis,I will analyse the questions of what kind of discourses does Australia's mainstream media use when reporting about the Chinese?How are the macro and microstructure of the reports?And does.the construction of the medias discourse have any problem?Using the discourse theories of Van Dijk,this thesis would analyse the reports within 2016,on the articles that is strongly related to Chinese.Other than that,I will analyse a case study of Wu Wei,which caused high intensive reporting by both the mainstream media and also the Chineseethnic media,and examine the discourse problem that might exixst.Media's discourse sometimes separates the self and the others.One reasons is that the historical racial issues,and also the complex background of the multiculturalism.In this case,media and journalists are responsible for being professional in reporting.Changing the discourse problems require the hard works from both mainstream media and the ethnic media,so that the integration of the ethnics could grow fast.
