As internet technology is getting more and more mature,we are gradually entering a new media era and the audience's audio and visual enjoyment is getting more and more diversified and precise,which brings up higher requirements for video streaming sites' development and results in more and more intense competition among video streaming sites.No matter whether the completion relates to the audience or advertising clients,higher requirements are raised.In this situation,web series come into being.As a new thing under internet competition,development of web series is still in exploratory stage.Without a complete industrial chain,a lot of aspects are to be explored.This article takes web series as a subject and discusses its development and promotion strategies under the big environment of new media.Firstly,the article clarifies the definition of web series,conduct relevant classification and summarize its characteristics.Chapter II sets forth the development of web series and video streaming sites based on the timeline,combines representative works of video streaming sites to sum up the features,and conclude the overall development trend of web series.In Chapter III,the author deeply analyzes the promotion strategies of web series in respect of positioning,viewing pattern,advertisement and the like and brings up more development strategies.In Chapter V,the author conducts case analysis on surprisingly famous grass-root web series---Go Princess Go,analyses its script,actors,lines and promotion strategies,and proposes good development strategies which other series may refer to.The last chapter will discuss existing problems of web series,come up with corresponding solutions and look into the development prospect of web series.
