The Review Of Research Achievements On Dunhuang Literatures

In 1900,the discovery of Dunhuang literatures in China Mogao Grottoes shocked the academic world.Through scholars’ research on cultural heritage in Dunhuang,a comprehensive subject concerning the Dunhuang literatures,the history and geography of Dunhuang,the Mogao Grottoes art and theories of Dunhuangology gradually formed between 1920s and 1930s.The subject is called Dunhuangology,which centering on the studying of Dunhuang literatures.Since 1900,Dunhuangology has experienced over one hundred years and acquired large numbers of achievements.However,Dunhuang literatures are collected in many places,which is not helpful for further study on Dunhuangology.Therefore,it is necessary for us to have a complete review and summary of the studies on Dunhuang literatures from both home and abroad.On the basis of previous studies of Professor Liu Jinbao,Professor Hao Chunwen and Professor Rong Xinjiang,this paper will summarize the achievements’ differences in combination with the catalog of Dunhuangology from 2000 to 2014.On account of the content of literatures and historical stages of Dunhuangology,the review will be conducive to comprehend the features of Dunhuang literatures in different historical periods for its documentary analysis and comparative method as well as logical analysis.This paper will divide into four parts.In the first part,the paper will analyze the background of Dunhuang literatures,namely the historical status of Dunhuang,the origin and development of Dunhuangology.The second part will discuss the foreign scholars’ research on Dunhuang literatures,especially the research achievements of the Great Britain,French,Russia and Japan etc.The third part will state the Dunhuang literatures’ research achievements of Chinese scholars according to three historical stages,namely the generating period from 1909 to 1937,the steady development from 1938 to 1977 and the flourishing period from 1978 up to now.The last part will illustrate the dilemma and development countermeasures of studying those literatures.Through the review of research achievements on Dunhuang literatures in one hundred years,the paper will discuss the dilemma of studying on Dunhuang literatures and come up with countermeasures to solve it and accelerate the development of Dunhuangology,the overseas spread of Chinese culture as well as the harmony of world development.
