Intertextuality is a basic function of texts, which means that a certain kind of text is not isolated and it is usually quotations or interpretations to other types of texts. As reports of the surrounding information, news reports will surely be intertextual with other texts. By using the intertextual theory, it will help to reveal the invisible ideology of the news reports by finding its selecting and responding ways to other texts. This paper takes fifty-five news articles that are awarded first prize in the 25 Chinese news journalism as the study case, trying to make analyses about how the news reports reflect and construct the society by continuous intertextuality with other texts.By referring to the intertextuality classification methods and analysis frame proposed by Xin Bin and Fairclough, the paper makes qualitative and quantitative research about the application of intertextual theory in the news report with the definite intertextuality, stylistic intertextuality and cultural intertextuality being the focus. After analyses about its application, the paper explores the communication functions of intertextuality from five aspects including the text, information, news disseminators, audience and its effects. Finally, the paper makes summaries about how the news reflects and constructs the facts by using intertextuality.
