With the development and prevalence of self-guided travel at home,travel guidebooks helping to provide information to travel have enjoyed much greater and increasing attention among self-guided tourists, which promotes the close relationship between tourism and publishing. Driven by macro-environmental changes like some related policies, technology and so forth, publishing feature of travel guidebooks varies greatly followed by some new problems which are worthwhile to be discussed in academic community.This paper starts from background of domestic travel guidebook publishing, then examines some current publishing features on books with the parallel development under two different publishing modes of print and online in a comprehensive aspect. Based on the developing current situation of this kinds of books, the paper points out the problems under the actual publishing mode and puts forward the feasible solutions sticking to these problems in order to provide references for publishers in future work.The paper is composed of seven chapters. The first chapter is introduction. In this section, it mainly elaborates the research background and significance of travel guidebooks in China and states the relevant studies and accounts of the research methods. The second chapter focuses on general features from several points such as the definition of the book, classification of the subjects, unique characteristics belonging to the book. From the third chapter to the fifth one, the paper turns to the content, reader's demands, publicity strategy,taking the current situation of publishing into consideration so that serves to the analysis of publishing current situation. The following chapter indicates the problems and limitations on travel guidebooks withrespective publishing modes based on features and present situation.Some solutions like advancing publishing ideas and transforming developing methods, complementing advantages from different publishing modes, concerning reader's demands, improving additional value of brands in response to these issues are proposed in the last chapter for the sake of exploring the possibility of better development of domestic travel guidebooks in the future.For the objective panorama of current situation to the travel guidebook publishing in this research, the author has not only consulted a large number of references, but also done a comprehensive investigation and analysis of print products and online books about Chinese tourism in the market with the relevant reader surveys.
