Under the background of triple play, passive optical network technology has become the best choice for realizing fiber to the home. Therefore, conducts the innovative research on the next generation PON architecture integrated with a variety of multiplexing technologies, and develops the new complete sets of passive optical access equipment, has the important meaning. The research in this dissertation was supported by the national "863" program, launched a system-depth analysis and technical innovation in hybrid WDM/TDM PON system, and elaborated in detail the system design with realization. The main contents and the creative results of this thesis are as the followings:(1) Based on the research of the next generation PON and the analysis of two types of hybrid WDM/TDM PON system architecture, an innovative solution of optical access network integrated, with TDM-PON, DWDM and AOWC technologies is proposed. Through the simulation analysis of the key technologies in hybrid WDM/TDM PON system, the feasibility of it has been proved in theory.(2) An innovative solution of distributed processing architecture has been used for hardware design of the optical line terminal, sothat the data channel and the management channel can be isolated, the host processor load is reduced and the system stability is improved.(3) A design method of layer planning for software design of the optical line terminal has been introduced. It has a good expansibility, transplantation and maintenance, and the system reliability is improved.(4) Based on the gain saturation characteristic and the cross-gain modulation (XGM) effect of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), a creative architecture of AOWC module implemented by using dual SOAs is proposed. Working as the probe signal, the specific wavelength laser is replaced by the system downstream signal. The proposal not only saves the laser source in AOWC module, but also makes the system architecture more efficient and simple.(5) The system design and product realization of the hybrid WDM/TDM passive optical network is described in detail. It contains the system general design, the hardware&software realization of OLT and ONU, and the achitecture design for ODN. The function and performance test of this system has been made and the result shows that it is good for application.
