Laser diode gets widely used in laser processing field, which is affected profoundly by the laser diode driver. There's very practical significance to research on the laser diode driver. Two new laser diode drivers are developed with high efficiency and high power in this paper, whose output current can response rapidly. What's more, the current ripple is made so small as to meet the requirement of laser processing.First of all, the laser diode driver on the market and research situation is analysed. According to the output characteristics of laser diode and the requirement of laser processing, a laser diode driver with interleaved two transistors forward conversion is proposed with analysis on working principle and control mode. A laser diode driver with interleaved single transistor forward conversion is proposed. The working principle and advantages which contains rappid current responding, simple construction, small current ripple and high efficiency are expounded. The small-signal model of the new topology is built. According to the simulation by PSpice, the feasibility of the new power supply is proved and reference for implement of hardware circuit is provided.Based on the theoretical analysis and simulation, for the E15.4Y-940.3-960C-VH8.1 type LD module, the circuit design of laser diode driver with interleaved two transistors forward conversion and laser diode driver with interleaved single transistor forward conversion is completed. Furthermore, power supplies based on the two topologies are developed in this paper.Experiments proved that the two laser diode drivers achieved the design target, which means time of output current dynamic responding is 1ms and the current ripple is less than 0.05%. Owing to the new topology, the efficiency of the laser diode driver with interleaved single transistor forward conversion is higher than the laser diode driver with interleaved two transistors forward conversion.
