The performance of marine ARPA radar is used to warning the ships to avoid collisions. The reliability and accuracy are directly related to the safety of marine traffic. This paper mainly focuses on the analysis of ARPA algorithm of the data accuracy. Based on the existing of ARPA algorithm, we can improve the accuracy of ARPA data, so as to further improve the performance of marine ARPA radar.The first part of this paper is mainly to introduce the function and the role of ARPA. And then we analyze the ARPA algorithm, describe the data processing flow of ARPA algorithm and explain some related techniques. At last, we analyze the errors in the data processing in detail. The first point is tracing error. It means during the process of target tracking, the leakage and tracing error are the important problems. The second point is the course error. On the one hand is the deviation of tracking point when we obtain the target. On the other hand, it means the course error when the target is maneuvering.In the second part of this paper, some solutions are put forward for the above errors. In order to avoid the target loss and tracking error, we adopt the more advanced algorithm of gate in order to improve the accuracy of target tracking. And then we take the filter to deal with the deviation of measurement point. It means that we can establish the existing mathematical model for the error of measured points, combine with the mean square filter and alpha beta filtering algorithm, so as to realize the smoothing filtering of the track, course and speed.The third part of this paper is to improve the accuracy of algorithm validation. It includes two parts.On the one hand, we can use MATLAB simulation software to analyze the algorithm. On the other hand,we can use the radar simulator to simulate the ship sailing, and respectively test the ARPA before and after improvement, so as to analyze precision optimization effect according to the measured data. Finally,it is concluded that this paper makes a very good optimization for the precision of ARPA data. Marine ARPA radar performance is more accurate and reliable, and it plays a very important role in the marine traffic safety.
