Machine vision system is one of the most important part of the Surface Mount System machine. Its main function is to locate the circuit boards and correct the element which to be mounted. The traditional placement machine uses mechanical claw to crawl the SMD components, the disadvantage is easy to damage the element and suitable for only one type of resistance capacitance device, meanwhile, it can not suit well for higher integration of IC chip components. For this problem, this paper proposes a chip component placement head positioning and correction algorithms based on FPGA.The vision system which is proposed in this paper takes FPGA as the master controller, using CMOS image sensors for image acquisition, combined with USB2.0 transmission images, taking use of FPGA image processing on the target of location and correction, transporting the result of test via CAN bus to mounter motion control systems. The experimental results show that the system is stable and reliable, which can realize the chip speed of 5000 / hour; placement accuracy of ± 0.02 mm.
