At the present stage, a prominent feature of the global navigation satellite system(GNSS) is diverse, compatible and interoperable. As a kind of GNSS, the development strategy of Beidou satellite navigation system(BDS) is that BDS will be tested firstly, then be covered on Asian-Pacific region, and lastly be covered on the whole world. By 2012 Asian-Pacific region has been covered by BDS, and navigation performance of each stage is interrelated and transitional smoothly. Performance evaluation is very important to the stable operation of a satellite navigation system, and it runs through the various stages such as the early design, research and development, and the expansion of the system. Therefore, the study of performance evaluation for BDS development is very important. On the basis of the research status at home and abroad, the form of performance indicators is proposed to assess the current performance of BDS. Firstly, a detailed performance evaluation process is analyzed and presented, which mainly includes ephemeris data analysis, modeling the space segment, performance analysis and three-dimensional simulation and so on. Secondly, three ephemeris formats data are analyzed in detail, the time and coordinate transformation algorithm are presented, and the satellites and orbit are visualized in 3D GIS. Thirdly, the performance indicators such as the visibility, the coverage, and GDOP are analyzed, and the satellite selection algorithm based on GDOP is also analyzed. Fourthly, the ionosphere error and troposphere delay error are emphatically analyzed, since they are important factors that affect the accuracy of the navigation is error. During the non-precision approach based on satellite navigation technology, the RAIM availability must be considered by the pilot, and the minimum requirement of RAIM availability is 99.9%given by ICAO. So the RAIM availability under different ionospheric models and tropospheric models are analyzed in the paper. Finally, as an important application of satellite navigation technology, GBAS is being an important means of approach. The VDB radio signal coverage is analyzed under different terrain conditions, and combined with the BDS visibility, a method of siting VDB station of GBAS is proposed.
