Henan Media Image On Tianjin "Ta Kung Pao" (1902-1915)

The imperialist powers gunfire blew open China's door at the end of 19 th century when feudal forces lingered and democratic ideas was agitating.During this period, Henan was poor,underdeveloped,closed and backward.Feudal ideology deeply rooted in people's mind.Officials were greedy corruption. Most people were reluctant to accept new things, so that the mode of production lagged behind,and the development of national capitalist economy was very slow.Under the impact of western economic aggression,some people had woken up gradually and came up with increasingly strong desire to get rid of oppression. Between the old and the new forces,Henan formed a unique social development path.Tianjin "Ta Kung Pao",a daily newspaper founded in 1902,received wide acclaim "say what others did not dare to say,publish what others did not dare to publish" for they never fear the pressure from the feudal ruling class.Since the founder Ying Lianzhi hoped to inspire citizens to learn the new West,the "Ta Kung Pao" focused on the criticism of backward feudal ideology and the praise of progressive idea.Though limited to the leader's thoughts, some articles ignored the negative impact of the “new” changes,the press still had objectively shown the change in the development of Modern Henan Province.Henan is a very special geographical location to Beijing,also a neighbor of Tianjin, so the "Ta Kung Pao" had reported Henan since it was first published.From June 1902 to June 1915,“Ta Kung Pao” were published more than four thousand five hundred times,which had 848 reports about Henan.Refer to the development and change of different periods,the media image of modern Henan could be divided into four phases:the imperial examination,railways economy,patent rights defending and banditry broke out.Officials and the public image of the press constituted the basic framework of the image of the entire press that time.Official consciousness influenced the social development of Henan and ultimately led to the change of the four kinds of image of Henan,in which the public image played a fundamental role. Although people seized every opportunity to resist the oppression and exploitation,resulting in social unrest,most people lacked goals and methods,which make public resistance faild,left a weak and poor image in the press.Although a hundred years has passed,and media forms of communication has undergone tremendous changes,the truth that the media image comes from the social reality is essentially unchanged.Only the local government follow the national pace of reform,take advantage of public power,pay attention to the umulative effect of the media and establish effective communication mechanism,the actual construction of regional development and regional media image can create a virtuous cycle of mutually reinforcing.
