Pantograph-catenary system is the key power supply unit in electrified railways, and its current-collecting quality directly affects the operation of electric locomotives. To ensure that locomotives can obtain electric energy continuously, the contact line has to keep in good contact with the sliding board during the operation. When locomotives are running in a high speed, complex mechanical and electric interactions exist between the sliding board and contact line, so it is prone that the contact line is too high, deviating from to the sliding board center too much, and even separated from the sliding board. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the contact state of the pantograph-catenary system in real time, so that the system can be protected from potential safety hazard.Based on the analysis of existing detectio n technologies at home and abroad, a non-contact image detection system aiming at the contact line height, pull-out value and arc is developed. The main research contents are as follows:Firstly, according to the imaging characteristics of the pantograph and contact line, the image recognition algorithms for the pantograph and contact line are proposed. Innovatively combining line detecting and template matching, the pantograph is recognized rapidly and accurate ly. Then a tracking and positioning strategy is proposed to recognize the contact line from the complex background.Secondly, the experimental results are analyzed. The image processing algorithm can accurately recognize the pantograph and contact line under different working conditions. Further with camera calibration, the actual values of the contact line height, pull-out value and arc can be detected.Finally, the system is designed dividing into three modules including collecting, processing and monito ring. The system possesses the functions such as online data acquisition, video storage, real-time processing, synchronous display, monitoring and alarm, off-line query and so on.Currently, the detection system has been preliminarily applied to Dalian Light Rail, Chongqing Metro and Taiyuan Railway. Providing the detecting results to the Railway Bureau can not only guide the design and construction of the pantograph-catenary system, but also lay a foundation for the maintenance of the system. Therefore, the detection system has an important engineering value.
