With the expansion of the Internet and the gerneration of a plenty of new network applications, the IPv4 network has exposed more and more problems, such as IPv4 address exhaustion, insecurity and untrusted of network, low assurance for QoS, configuration complexity and so on. These problems have seriously hindered the development of the Internet, therefore the panel study enact the new Internet protocol IPv6. It is a huge cost to upgrade the current IPv4 network to IPv6 network, therefore the IPv4 and IPv6 will exist together in an indefinite period from here on. To ensure the continuity of network business IPv6 transition technology is introduced in the IPv4 and IPv6 coexistence phase. There are a variety of IPv6 transition technologies and each technology is aimed at a particular application scenario and requires special network equipment in the actual network deployment, which makes the network more complex. In addition, due to the change of the requirements of network applications, the network deployment needs be changed according to the demand, which not only increase the complexity of the network deployment but also cause the waste of network resource.SDN(Software Defined Network) is a new kind of network architecture which is put forward by Stanford university of the United States, whose main idea is that separates the control plane and forwarding plane of network and manages network by means of software programming in control plane. In this paper we do a reach on the technology of IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected based on SDN architecture and design the IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected system based SDN. In this system, taking advantage of the technology of SDN, we use the standard interfaces which the control plane provides to write the applied program of IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected, then we install the program into the SDN controller. In this way the network devices of IPv4 and IPv6 only needs little change and it has advantages of simple and facility configuration. And if we don't need the demand of IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected, we only remove the program from controller. The effect on the network is next to nothing.The IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected system based SDN is consist of the routing subsystem and interconnected subsystem.The routing subsystem, including routing gateway configuration module, routing gateway device detection module routing information management module three functional modules, implements the configuration and detection of boundary routing gateway device and the information maintenance and management of the routing table.Controller can select a path between IPv4 network and IPv6 network according to the routing table that it maintains. The interconnected subsystem, including DNS-ALG(Domain Name System-Application Layer Gateway) module and NAT-PT(Network Address Translation-Protocol Translation) module two function modules, implements the the establishment of IPv4 address and IPv6 address mapping in the stage of domain name resolution and the translation of different protocol format packets in the stage of data communication. Finally, we use a series of simulation tools, such as Floodlight controller, Open vSwitch etc, to simulate a simulation OpenFlow network to test the IPv4 and IPv6 interconnected system based SDN.
