With the rapid development of information technology, while bringing convenience to hundreds of millions of users, we are facing a fatal problem: the address space based on IPv4 protocol has been on the verge of exhaustion. Although IPv6 can fundamentally solve the problem of lack of IPv4 address space, but the numerous network equipments and network applications are based on IPv4, so before the widespread application of IPv6, Network Address Translation(NAT) is the main technical means to solve this problem. The emergence of NAT makes the trend of the number of network terminals look positive, so it has important application values on the research of NAT technology.Based on the demand of reducing the cost of hardware products and enhancing product's competitiveness in the market, there is a company needs to develop a series of interface board which is relatively of lower cost on the strength of a series high-end router. This thesis focus on the development of NAT drive module on the new interface board, for the purpose that the interface board could offer NAT business functions, get a well performance NAT solution.Based on the research of NAT protocol and router, this thesis proposes a distributed NAT scheme based on multi core CPU, which is based on the company's a series of high-end router architecture features and Comware V7 platform. The NAT application model in this thesis consists of hardware and software together. In terms of hardware, the scheme offers NAT data services on NP(Network Processor) Board with NP chip and a strong processing capacity multi-core CPU buckle. In terms of software, the scheme offers the redirection of message ensuring the delivery of correct message and information to Comware V7 platform. Finally, this thesis carries on experiments on multi-core NAT application model based on NAT testing strategies. The experimental results show that the NAT scheme is feasible, the performance possess the expected effect, and has been applied in the Internet access cases of the common e-government network and school education network.
