IPv6 is a next generation Internet Protocol. Which would solve the problem of shortage of protocol IPv4. Despite IPv6 can solve the address lackness, it takes too much time to transition from IPv4 to IPv6. During this period, all the new added IPv6 networks need communicate with the existing IPv4 networks. NAT-PT is the transitional mechanism solving communication between IPv6 networks and IPv4 networks. NAT-PT transitional mechanism is of translation functions for addresses and protocols. Configuration of NAT-PT is performed by NAT-PT gateway. Using NAT-PT rather than any changes in the existing networks, it can communicate between Ipv4 and Ipv6.This dissertion introduces several IPv6 transitional technologies, analyzes and comparizes their performances, and analyzes NAT-PT technique and its communication process in detail. On this basis, a design for NAT-PT gateway is proposed, including address translation, protocol translation and DNS-ALG. .In the process realization, the translational algorithm of the agreement SIIT is improved, the NAT-PT security issues are analyzed, and suggestions are given for improvement. This dissertion also introduces the translational module of the agreement, including IPv4/IPv6 packet translation, ICMPv4/ICMPv6 message translation, as well as the modification for the head messages of the last layer agreement. Finally, the design for NAT-PT gateway is verified. Experimental results show that the gateway has dynamic address allocation and protocol translation, realizing communicate between Ipv4 and IPv6.
