Invoking the standard parts in the design process of injection mold ensured the design standardability and quality, moreover, improved the design efficiency at some extent. However, the use of these standard parts, including setting up and maintaining part libraries, finding and assembling parts, would cost a lot of time, which heavily influenced the total efficiency of mold production. According to this case, this paper studied the efficient methods to use the standard parts database in injection mold, and also studied rapid retrieval and automated assembly methods of standard parts.Firstly, this paper analyzed the general procedure of invoking standard parts in injection mold design and discussed the problem in it. With an example of invoking standard parts in injection mold design, this paper gives an idea on how to save time and improve efficiency in comprehensive utilization of standard parts, parts retrieving and parts assembling.Although there are some differences in the methods of building the database and the data structures of different injection mold standard parts library, but the standard parts are in accordance with classification to classify, these classifications including supplier name, system category name, etc. The author extracted these classification information, and relied on these information to reclassify the parts, at last with the help of XML technology to build a multi-source and associated database.Based on the multi-source and associated database, the author introduces a keyword search to help use the standard parts. The author research and design an efficient and comprehensive search programs to achieve a fast retrieval of injection mold standard parts, testing by examples and evaluating performance.After the retrieval is completed, the designer needs to assemble the standard parts. Indepth analysis of the assembly process for injection mold standard parts is conducted and the constraints in assembly process are converted into corresponding rules, and further assembly rules set is established which covers the whole process of standard parts assembly of injection mold. On the basis of that, an automatic assembly method for standard parts of injection mold, based on rules set, is put forward and achieves the automatic assembly of injection mold standard parts.According to the results above, the prototype system related with the injection mold standard parts system is developed on UG NX platform, and the functions of the system are briefly introduced and finally the effectiveness of the system is confirmed.
